Mind Over Matter

Mind Over Matter

Here’s the thing about the phrase “mind over matter” you must remember: It’s true.
It’s tempting to dismiss catchy phrases we hear over and over as cutesy sayings without much substance behind them. But often these clichés stick around because they’re based on truth. And this is most definitely one of those instances.
Believe us when we tell you that your beliefs, and your beliefs alone, are what matter most when it comes to overcoming your biggest challenges and achieving your dreams. And while these beliefs can drive you to excellence, they also have the power to keep you from it. That’s why it’s so critical that you learn to harness the power of your mind in order to use it to your advantage.
The key to taking the reins on your mind’s power lies in your focus. When you’re faced with a major obstacle, it’s extremely easy to latch onto thoughts of why that obstacle is insurmountable — you don’t have enough time, you don’t have enough money, you’re not skilled enough etc. — and because it’s so easy for our minds to go there, we have a tendency to fall into the trap of mistaking those thoughts for truth.
Does that sound anything like you? Then it’s time to address your thinking habits.
If your mind is currently trained to look for reasons why you can’t do something, then you must focus on retraining it to find the reasons why you can. This type of reprogramming is exactly why thousands of people have been able to overcome the Tony Robbins firewalk. So, the next time you find yourself faced with a seemingly impossible task and you catch your mind playing the same old tricks of, “better stop doing what you’re doing; you can’t do this,” interrupt those thoughts with a change of state. By focusing on what you want, rather than on what’s holding you back, you reframe your perception and the solutions will flow from here.

Once your focus is on the target, your mind will seek the right path, much like a missile that homes in on its target. You’ll start to brainstorm solutions. Even if you don’t believe they’ll work, brainstorm anyway. Write those possible solutions down. You don’t even have to do anything with them. The point is only to break you from the defeating habit of finding reasons something won’t work and cultivate the habit of looking for things that will.
Over time, with repeated use, this practice will literally reprogram your mind to look for ways to overcome obstacles rather than stick to reasons why you can’t. And with enough consistency, finding solutions will become less of a struggle and more second nature, ultimately leading you to wonder how you lived so long without doing it.
Now, go forth solution-seeker, and never forget that your mind carries with it boundless power — how you wield it is entirely up to you.
